Torgny Hanson has a long career as teacher, lecturer and conductor. After studies and examinations at the State Conservatoire of Music in his home town Malmö he has been professionally active as pedagogue and conductor. As teacher and lecturer in brass, ensemble technique and pedagogy he was for a period of eight years on the faculty of the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm.
Hanson was appointed chief conductor and director of the professional wind ensemble Östgötamusiken in 1980, followed by positions as music director of the Swedish Army Band 1984 and also from 1986 conductor of the Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra. He retired from the Swedish Military Music as Inspector of Music after ten years in that position.
He has been music director and chief conductor of three symphony orchestras in Sweden. Now he has is own Torgny Hanson Wind Orchestra.
Hanson has guest conducted wind orchestras, military bands and brass bands in several countries as Finland, Norway, Denmark, Great Britain, Germany, The Netherlands, Canada and the USA.
During the 1990s he was regulary more or less every year teaching and conducting the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain.
He has adjudicated several contests for soloists, conductors and brass- as well as wind band in countries like Great Britain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
