Marco Somadossi, director, composer and teacher, was born in Rovereto (TN) in 1968. He graduated with full marks and honours in Conducting and Composition for Wind Orchestra, in Band Instrumentation and in Trombone. His artistic activities are worldwide, throughout Italy, Europe (Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Belarus, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia, France, Spain, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova), USA and China.
His compositions have been performed in the most prestigious Italian programs and festivals (Suoni delle Dolomiti, Festival Musica Sacra, International Sculpture Symposium, Centenary of the Great War, Festival Musica Riva, Terra Comunica, Vatican Museums, Ministry of Defence, Mittelfest, Teatro Giovanni da Udine) and have seen the collaboration of many of the most renowned Italian musicians (Solisti della Scala, Rai Orchestra, Wiener Philarmoniker, Accademia S. Cecilia), as well as pop music, jazz music and theatre artists (Goran Bregovic, Tosca, Antonella Ruggero, Simone Cristicchi, Frida Bollani Magoni; Paolo Fresu, Andrea Tofanelli, Mario Perrotta, Paolo Rumiz, Gianmaria Aliverta).
In 2023 and 2024, the melologue "Le guerre di Ulisse" for band, voice, choir and soprano, with the libretto by Prof. Patrizio Bianchi, was produced and included in the program of the Theatres Comunale in Ferrara and Dante Alighieri in Ravenna.
He is chair of Composition and Instrumentation for Wind Orchestra at the “Felice Evaristo Dall'Abaco” Conservatory in Verona and serves in Italy and Europe as a teacher in courses, internships in both composition and conducting, and as a jury member in composition and performance competitions. He has been a guest lecturer at the Higher Conservatory of Jaen (E), the Rotterdam Conservatory (NL), the University of Riga (LV) and Stanford University, California (USA).
His compositions, published by Scomegna Music Editions, have been selected as compulsory pieces by some of the most recognized performance competitions in Italy and Europe and have been performed in Europe, the United States of America, and Asia. Besides original works for wind orchestra, he has also written various transcriptions and arrangements, always preserving a personal and recognizable style. He worked in the folk music field, as well as in popular music, where he has collaborated with popular singers such as Antonella Ruggiero, Goran Bregovic, Tosca, and Chiara Luppi. As a composer, he won First Prize at the 7th International Contest “Pietro Pernice” 2004 (with the piece Fanfare and Hymn for Peace), Second Prize at the 21st International Wind Band Composition Contest of Corciano 2000 (with the piece Via della Terra); Second Prize at the International Contest for original wind band composition ARGE-ALP 1998 (with the work Sah); and Second Prize at the International Contest of Composition for Youth Band of Sinnai 2011 (Klezmer Junior) . He has produced numerous recordings with radio and television broadcast companies in Italy and with the labels Scomegna and Amadeus. Marco Somadossi is often invited as a jury member at national and international performance and composition wind band competitions. He is professor of composition and wind band conducting at the Conservatory of Music "Jacopo Tomadini" in Udine.
His compositions are published by Scomegna and by Edimill. Alongside his artistic activity, he is nationwide committed with development and educational promotion for young Italian wind band musicians; with affection since 2005 he works with the largest of these targets: the Anbima FVG Regional Youth Band. He was awarded the Euterpe prize for music "for the inestimable artistic heritage, the high didactic contribution and the intellectual sensitivity given to music" (2019, Reggio Calabria) and in 2022 he was awarded the honour of “Cavaliere al Merito” of the Italian republic.

Born in 1957, he graduated in Trumpet and Composition for band at the Conservatory of Parma and in Choir Music and at the Conservatory of Bologna.

He was a trumpet player in various orchestras such as "A. Toscanini" from Emilia Romagna and the R.A.I., while teaching at the Parma and Modena Conservatories. At present, he is composing original pieces for wind band winning numerous awards. Besides collaborating with publishers as Scomegna (Turin), Eridania (Mantova) and Molenaar (Holland) he has been conducting the "Grande Banda Rappresentativa della Federazione delle bande del Trentino" and the Conservatory wind-band in Trento, the first ever in Italy, which he founded. He is frequently invited to hold seminars both nationally and internationally, as jury member in wind band competitions and guest director in some of the best Italian orchestras. Since 1987 he has held the chair in Composition at "Bonporti" Conservatory of Trento, besides Arranging and Analysis in Jazz and Popular Music new courses.
