Every year the musical performances will be evaluated by a jury made up of personalities from the world of music. Great composers, musicians and conductors accept the invitation to be part of the Jury sharing the passion for wind music.
PRESIDENT
Jacob de Haan is one of the most prominent and popular contemporary composers for concert band. Born in Heerenveen, The Netherlands, on March 28, 1959, he studied piano, organ, theory, and composition at the Academy of Music in Leeuwarden, where he later taught arranging.
His musical output includes original compositions, arrangements, vocal works, and film-inspired scores. He is internationally renowned for pieces such as Oregon, Ross Roy, Ammerland, The Book of Urizen, and La Storia. His works often draw inspiration from landscapes, epic tales, spiritual themes, and cinematic moods, and are frequently performed at contests, festivals, and concerts around the world.
Jacob de Haan is also active as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator at international wind band competitions in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Australia. His music—mostly published by De Haske/Hal Leonard—is known for its accessible yet expressive style, appealing to ensembles of all levels.
He currently lives in Rotterdam, where he continues composing and promoting band music worldwide.
